The International Open Electives is a two-week multidisciplinary series of workshops offered at the National Institute of Design every year.

This Branding and Merchandising project was done under the guidance of Professor Tarun Deep Girdher and in collaboration with fellow graphic designer, Sukanya Baskar for NID, India.

The Open Elective 2015 was thematically branded “Drawing by Design” and accordingly the entire design language for the event was developed.

The essence of the visual style of the event was— Black, White, Orange, Horizontal lines, Indian, and textures.

Keeping this visual style in mind, a merchandising kit was planned which was to be gifted to all the faculties and guests participating in the workshops.

The first of the kit, a tote bag was designed, with charcoal grey canvas cloth and hand dyed chord straps, in the brand colors.

A pocket was additionally designed with various  Indian block prints in the colour orange. These block prints were also later scanned and used as visual cues for other collaterals.

The drawing blocks provided in the kit were also designed to be A4 sized.

The drawing block consisted of three different types of paper - cartridge, parchment, and striped cover paper, with the progression of orange tint visible from the edges.

The cover of the drawing blocks had been designed by up-cycling the misprints from the Poster printing. They were resized and screen printed with the event branding.
