Here & Now Festival — Branding & Visual Identity
Client: Her og der (Bergen, Norway)

Role: Branding & Graphic Design

Year: 2022

The Here & Now Festival (15–18 September 2022) was a multi-venue cultural event in Bergen, Norway, organized by Her og der. It brought together newly arrived artists in Norway through exhibitions, film screenings, poetry readings, sound walks, animation workshops, and talks.
The festival aimed to create a living, dynamic experience — more than an exhibition, it was a celebration of creative expression in the present moment.

The branding reflects the spirit of immediacy and connection embedded in the festival’s title Here & Now:
Typography: A bold, minimal sans-serif font with high contrast (HERE&NOW) emphasized urgency and presence, while maintaining clarity across different mediums.
Color Palette: A set of playful, pastel tones balanced with a strong yellow backdrop to create vibrancy and inclusivity. The many venues of the festival were assigned a colour each, and all events in that venue were grouped under that color. The palette worked across both posters and digital schedules, giving consistency and approachability.
Layout System: A modular grid and clear hierarchies allowed for flexible event promotion — from overall festival schedules to individual event highlights.
Graphic Devices: Use of the “+” symbol to connect activities (exhibitions, workshops, screenings) visually reinforced the idea of accumulation and togetherness.

The identity gave the festival a cohesive and recognizable presence across Bergen, making it approachable to both local and international audiences.
Deliverables:
Festival Poster, Schedule & Brochures : Served as the primary branding piece, unifying all activities under one recognizable design.
Event-Specific Visuals : Adaptations for different venues and performances
Digital Assets: Graphics for social media and event listings.

With multiple international participants and events spread across several venues in Bergen, the challenge was to create a unifying identity that still felt festive and open. The branding successfully connected diverse spaces, practices, and audiences under one cohesive visual language, ensuring that whether someone encountered the festival at a gallery, a library, or online, they recognized it as part of the same cultural experience.

By balancing bold clarity with playful elements, the identity not only made the program accessible but also maintained a strong festival spirit — celebratory, inclusive, and full of creative energy.
