Website Design/Necu
The North East Christian University is an institute of Higher Cultural Education started by the joint efforts of the Baptist Churches of North East India and the Government of Nagaland.
NECU approached me in August 2018with the request of redesigning their old website into a more comprehensible, linear site. The brief was to declutter the information and create a navigation system for seamless user experience. The new website is the primary communication platform for the University and its students and associates and a one-stop resource for all information.
Methodology:
Phase 1: Problem Statement:
All information on the home page in the form of essays can be quite tedious to use. Key points from these essays were separated, grouped, and recomposed to generate crisp and informative content.
Phase2: Wireframing:
The content and key points were strategically used to build a hierarchy for the new site. Then a site map was constructed and following that the layout for the wireframe was designed.
Phase3: Visual Language:
Color Palette:
Taking inspiration from the dominant natural colors of Nagaland and around the campus, a leaf Green was combined together with dark Blue, representing tenderness
of nature and discipline within the culture.
Typography:
A combination of serif and sans serif typefaces were used to balance out between classic and contemporary and create an appealing look. Hand drawn letterings were also used as part of illustrations.
Phase 4: Final layout of all information and illustrations according to a twelve coloum grid.
Illustrations:
The illustrations were done combining digital tools and watercolor. The inspirations were taken from the eight individual tribal cultures of the eight different north-east Indian states.
Phase 5: Implementation of the new updated website.
